We are SO excited to share that Black Mothers Matter has been nominated for Team of the Year at this year’s Bristol Social Impact Awards!
Hosted by Voscur, the Bristol Social Impact Awards celebrate the incredible work happening across Bristol and the West of England’s voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector. They recognise the dedication of local organisations, bring inspiring people together and shine a light on the positive impact the sector has on our communities.
We have been nominated in the Team of the Year category, which celebrates a team within a VCSE organisation that works exceptionally well together for the benefit of the people and communities they support.
And honestly? We couldn’t be prouder.
When we first heard about the awards, we thought it would be lovely to receive a couple of nominations and have the work we do recognised. But what followed has been something much more special.
As the awards were announced and the different categories shared, we discovered that members of our community had put us forward for Team of the Year, submitting multiple nominations in recognition of our work.
And that is what makes this nomination so meaningful to us.
At Black Mothers Matter, everything we do is rooted in community. We exist because Black women and birthers deserve to feel supported, heard, respected and celebrated throughout pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. We work hard to create spaces where people can access culturally supportive care, build meaningful relationships and experience the joy of being part of a community that understands them.
But the impact of this work doesn't stop when someone leaves a group or their little one grows out of our sessions. The relationships, connections and sense of belonging continue long afterwards. Our community members remain part of the Black Mothers Matter family, and knowing that people continue to value what we have built together is incredibly special.
To discover that the people who have walked through our doors recognise the importance of this work, and have taken the time to nominate us, is a reminder of why we do what we do.
Behind Black Mothers Matter is a team of passionate Black women bringing our lived experiences, professional expertise, dedication and love to the work every single day. We are committed to creating spaces where Black women and birthers can plan for success, not survival, and where Black joy, connection and community are at the heart of everything.
We are really looking forward to attending the awards and celebrating alongside so many other incredible organisations doing important work across Bristol and the West of England.
Of course, we would LOVE to win! But regardless of the outcome, having our work, commitment and passion recognised in this way is already something worth celebrating.
So, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to nominate Black Mothers Matter for Team of the Year. Your support means more than you know. You have reminded us that the work we do matters and that the community we have built is something special, far out of the walls of group!
