1-1 Breastfeeding Support

Instagram and Aunties might have you believing breastfeeding is straightforward and something that comes ‘naturally’. The truth is it takes preparation, practice and many parents have struggles.

Getting some support with breastfeeding really can make all the difference to your feeding journey.

Nationally there are some great services available such as La Leche League GB or the NCT infant feeding line and if you search locally you should be able to find in person groups.

We’re able to offer 1-1 online support with our lovely Breastfeeding Support Practioner - Susan. Susan is a Black mother with personal experience, but also a wealth of professional knowledge on breastfeeding, babies, postnatal recovery and lots more. Susan is NCT trained in breastfeeding support and can help if you if you have general questions or are struggling with breastfeeding. .

You may find it useful to talk to Susan if:

  • you are pregnant and would like to talk about preparing for breastfeeding

  • you’d like to express colostrum before baby is born (this can be really helpful for those diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes)

  • you are feeding multiples

  • you are feeling pressured to bottle feed

  • you are worried about breastfeeding outside of the home

  • you’d like to discuss expressing milk and combination feeding

  • you are having difficulties latching baby

  • you have sore breasts and/or nipples

  • you are struggling with breastfeeding positions

  • you are worried about your milk supply

Due to the nature of online consultations, certain conditions are not suitable to be assessed online, such as tongue tie and assessment of baby's mouth or suction, these are best addressed in an in-person setting. Black Mothers Matter and Susan will always signpost or refer to further in person support as required.
