Community Projects Worker

We are seeking a compassionate, community-focused and proactive Community Projects Worker to support the delivery of our services for Black and Mixed Black women and birthers. This is a hands-on role where you will help deliver group sessions, outreach activities and practical support, ensuring our community members feel welcomed, valued and connected to the services they need.

The ideal candidate is passionate about community engagement, enjoys working directly with people and is committed to advancing equity and improving outcomes for Black and Mixed Black women and birthers.

The ideal candidate will:

• Be warm, approachable and confident in building positive relationships with Black mothers and birthers.

• Have experience working with communities in a paid or voluntary capacity.

• Be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage people from diverse backgrounds.

• Support the planning and delivery of community groups, workshops and outreach activities across Bristol and Gloucester.

• Be organised and able to manage practical tasks such as setting up sessions, taking registers, maintaining accurate records and gathering participant feedback.

• Provide practical information, guidance and signposting, responding sensitively to individual needs and escalating safeguarding concerns where appropriate.

• Work collaboratively as part of a supportive team while also using initiative to solve problems and respond to the needs of community members.

• Be adaptable, reliable and willing to travel to different community locations.

• Have a strong understanding of the issues affecting Black mothers and birthers, and their communities.

• Demonstrate a commitment to equity, inclusion, anti-racist practice and the mission of Black Mothers Matter.

Hours

This is a part-time, term-time only role, working 15 hours per week, plus 3 additional weeks during school holidays.

Monday 9am-2.30pm, Tuesday 10am-2pm, Thursday 9am-2.30pm.

Salary

£8014 - £9,369 per annum (based on a full-time equivalent salary of £24,804 -£29,000) depending on experience.

Occupational Requirement

Due to the nature of this role and the communities we serve, this post is subject to an Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010. Applicants must be racialised as Black (including people of Black African, Black Caribbean, or mixed Black heritage) and have a lived understanding of the experiences of Black women and birthing people.
